Taï-chi chuan by Yang Fukui and Yang Chengfu
Imagine yourself performing a series of harmonious, flowing, slow movements. You relax. You breathe deeply and your mind becomes serene. You become aware that your body and mind are working in a subtle, beneficial communion: you're doing Tai-chi chuan!
“Don't allow interruptions anywhere. The root is in the feet, coming from the legs. Direct from the waist and transfer to the hands and fingers (...) Emptiness and fullness must be clearly distinguished. Every movement contains emptiness and fullness. (...) The joints of the whole body are linked. Make sure there is not the slightest disconnection.” Treatise on the thirteen movements written by Li Chunmao (Li Yezhen) in 1632.
Yang Fukui's tai-chi chuan :
The ancient tai-chi chuan of Yang Fukui, nicknamed Yang the invincible during his lifetime (Yang Luchan), is still kept secret by a few rare Chinese masters who, in China, don't show it in public. The sequence or form (kata...) is studded with explosive movements. The result is an increase in vitality.
Yang Chengfu's Taï-chi chuan :
Known for its beneficial effects in Chinese hospitals and in some Western countries, Yang Chengfu-style tai-chi chuan has attracted and seduced a growing number of people, which is why it is the most popular in the world. Its sequences have a cleansing effect on the energy system.
FULL TAIJI SELFDEFENSE

Refined to its highest level by Yang Fukui, a prodigy in martial arts and energy techniques, Relaxed Boxing—or Cotton Boxing—was taught, beginning in 1850, to the elite of the Manchu Imperial Guard within the Forbidden City. Yang Fukui was nicknamed “Yang the Invincible” during his lifetime (Yang Luchan). However, part of this knowledge was kept secret within the family. It was during this period that the family’s art came to be known as Tai Chi Chuan (Ultimate and Supreme Boxing). Two generations later, a new, highly simplified form was created for the general public by Yang Chengfu and his older brother Yang Shaohou. Only the latter passed down the family’s secret art.
The course includes this family teaching to develop the following skills: blocking, absorbing, dodging, striking vital points (dim mak) directly but more often by rubbing, twisting, pinching, and controlling joints. Strikes can be delivered explosively at a rate of up to about 10 per second. Key features of this martial art: muscle relaxation and circular, undulating movements that enable explosive, rapid-fire strikes without a running start.
The curriculum includes Yang-style Iron Shirt Qigong, fa-li (muscle explosion), fa-jin (shudder explosion), fa-chi (energy compression explosion), the use of yi (mental intention) and shen (pure spirit), tui shou (pushing hands), nian shou (or chi sao, sticky hands), shuai jiao (or wrestling), chin na (grappling and joint locks), knife defense, and a multitude of traditional and personal strategies unique to Fabrice Hohn, Wudang Mountain Boxing with chi dispersion techniques... Self-control.
